After losing his parents, as well as his scalp as a youth, Hezekiah Daly set out for his revenge on the Comanche. He studied their ways until he was like one of them. Dedication to his task got him the name "Comanche Killer." He was spending his life tracking and hunting Comanche renegades, though he really didn't care if they were renegades or not. As he finished one band or renegades, he found two pioneer youths hiding close to where their parents were killed. In rescuing them, he felt responsible for their welfare. They also thought he was responsible for them. The twenty-years-old girl and her twelve-year-old brother were frightened of him at first, then became frightened when away from him.
