Islamic Waqf as a Tool for Upgrading Informal Settlements in Egypt Hussein Elasrag

The issue of informal settlements in Egypt is one of the most serious problems due to its economic, social and security impacts which influence the safety and stability of the Egyptian society. A review of informal settlements upgrading policies shows that governments have moved away from eradication policies to provision, enabling and participatory policies. This study investigates the present situation of informal settlements in the Egypt as well as the Islamic Waqf as a tool for upgrading informal settlements in Egypt.
