For as long as she could remember, Bethany had always been dark. Although this meant that she lacked the necessary arcane powers to protect herself from harm, she had never considered herself to have been in danger, because sometime in the distant past, powerful Wards of magic had been woven about her being, manifest in the guise of the Guardian - her own, personal guardian angel. It had never let her down, never failed to keep her safe, except for one never-to-be-forgotten moment when she needed its protection the most. An alien spirit had forcibly invaded the sanctity of her mind and, while under its spell, she had carried out the most heinous crime. A crime that would haunt her for the rest of her young life. But who had Warded her in this way; and to what end? Maybe the text of an ancient allegory, the Tainekan Prophesy, could provide some of the answers - give advance warning of those who were her enemies... and perhaps identify those who, many years previously, had been responsible for the murder of her mother.
