Updated as of May 29, 2018 On January 23, 2017, the Mine Safety and Health Administration published a final rule (January 2017 rule) amending provisions regarding examinations of working places in metal and nonmetal mines which were later stayed. MSHA is further amending the affected provisions following expiration of the stay. These additional amendments provide mine operators additional flexibility in managing their safety and health programs and reduces regulatory burdens without reducing the protections afforded miners. A document announcing stakeholder meetings is published concurrently with this rule in the Federal Register.
