Michael and Jennifer are recovering from mutual betrayal, getting on with their lives as best they can. Their friendship with Andy Frye is precarious. Both Michael and Jenn balance on the lip of the Venus flytrap of mental illness, and Michael is in a constant battle in his addictions to drugs and alcohol. Although truces are made and forgiveness is spoken, their broken vows continue to affect every aspect of their lives. Jennifer accepts a teaching position at St. Luce College and finds meaning to her life, but she also finds it difficult to live with or without the man who lifted her up when she needed it, but then brought her down to reality. It takes a tragedy for her to realize everything she wants or needs is contained in the life she has built with Michael.
