Musings of a School Teacher

Musings of a School Teacher
Willie Young
Mr Young returns to his hometown in the early seventies as a just-qualified chemistry teacher to take up a teaching post in a local school. Being of a sporty nature Mr Young also finds himself heavily involved in the school football team and staff league. With a brief reminisce of his own schooldays in the early sixties, he goes on to give a witty and colourful account of school life during his teaching career from the early seventies to the present day: the effects of corporal punishment in a classroom - both before and after its abolition; the highs and lows of coaching the school football team; the fun and enjoyment of school skiing trips and staff outings. Mr Young ends by discussing the need for the education authorities to consult teachers across a wide spectrum before introducing any more changes into an already struggling system.
