Delores, A Good Girl Really
Gene Gordon
Delores tells the story of an idealistic black teenager coming of age in white, industrial Sheffield during the decade of change and awakening the 1960s. Desperate to meet her estranged father, to fall in love and to be accepted or at the very least ignored by the white community around her, Delores stumbles through her teenaged years in ignorance and awe. We share her first bittersweet experiences of love and, of course, rejection and feel her pain during those all too common cringe-worthy adolescent moments. Set against the backdrop of contemporary social issues, Delores is both the history of a time and of the young adult in all of us.
