Montgomery is a lonely mouse, living with his mother in St Mary's Church in Middleton-in-the-Marsh. Montgomery enjoys watching weddings and other ceremonies held in the large church. One day he meets a young mouse called Martha and falls in love with her, but they are in danger from mousetraps and Bernard the barn owl, which both threaten their mouse community.
