Blackwood's two best-known stories are The Willows and The Wendigo, that were both first published as part of his 1907 collection The Listener and Other Stories."The Willows" tells us about two friends on a canoe trip down the Danube River. The dense, surrounding environment-river, sun, wind-has a striking and threatening character that oppresses the friends."The Wendigo" is a story of two Scotsmen - Simpson, a student, and his uncle, Dr. Cathcart, an author of a book on collective hallucination, on a moose-hunting trip along with other characters. During the first night camping, one of them smells a strange and frightful odor. That same night, Simpson wakes to find one of his companions in terror from something outside the tent.
