Arthur Ashe was the first black man to win the Wimbledon tennis tournament, but this victory was not easy. Arthur grew up in Virginia in a time of segregation, where black people were kept out of areas where white people lived, worked, and played sports. Frustrated with the unfairness he saw, Arthur spoke out against segregation, advocating for a fairer world where anyone could compete to be the best, regardless of the color of their skin.
