Sir Walter Scott's classic novel, set in Eighteenth Century Scotland, based around the Porteous Riots in the Scottish county of Midlothian, which occurred after two smugglers were executed at Old Tolbooth prison in Edinburgh. The novel also follows Jeanie Deans, a young woman who travels from Scotland to London, partly on foot, seeking to receive an audience with Queen Victoria with the aid of the Duke of Argyll.
