This is the life of James Stuart, the half-brother of Mary, Queen of Scots, a driving force for the Scottish Reformation, which abolished papal jurisdiction within Scotland and established the Protestant church. When Mary returned to Scotland in 1561 she sought to return her kingdom to papal authority, and so began the battle between Catholic sister and Protestant brother.
