When Matt Dunnigan is diagnosed with Williams Syndrome, it radically changes the future Susan imagined. She and her husband begin the adventure of raising Matt to live in the 'normal world'. Through school and into adulthood Matt is a trailblazer, living his life with enthusiasm as he finds his place in society.

The book is a challenge to personal and governmental assumptions about disability. It maintains that what is best is for people to live in society the best they can, with supports in place, not labelled as 'clients' and put into group homes and programs which cap growth and free will.
