The volume focuses on the Provisional Central Authority for Germany in the 1848/49 revolution. It examines its origins, structure as well as its policies, function and significance. In addition, the simultaneously established Provisional Governments in Schleswig-Holstein, Saxony, Baden and the Palatinate are treated - for the first time systematically and comparatively. As research has paid too little attention to them so far, the volume also takes a view of the bourgeois revolution in Germany that is new in some respects.
