Managing the Creative Mind explores techniques inmanaging a team of technicians for the production ofThe Taming of the Shrew. It is also a documentationof a Technical Director's process. More than theorganization of the project, it focuses on thepeople. I wanted to experience what made thetechnicians tick and test my theories on motivationand efficiency. I kept a log of conversations andhappenings for each of the people involved in theproduction. I made assignment decisions based on myreaction to their personalities and experience. Thegoal was to make people excited to be there and, inturn, produce a forward thinking, can-do environmentwhere the production would run itself. Included is ascript analysis, statement of goals, process, evaluation, technical drawings, paperwork andphotographs.
