Colonial Zimbabwe As Depicted in Some Shona Novels: a Historical Analysis
Jacob Mapara
This book analyses some selected Shona novels and how these depict the relations between Blacks and Whites in the Rhodesian settler colony. It shows that Blacks were largely ill-treated especially in the work places. The book also brings to the fore the skewed land policies that were in favour of the Whites, who got the best land while the Blacks were not only pushed to overcrowded reserves but also were confined to less fertile and hostile lands. The book also explodes the colonial myth that the Blacks committed crimes. It shows some Whites also getting involved in crimes some such as rape and drug dealing.
