Development of Kanuri Terms for Basic Education Kaka Gana Abba

The book provides the necessary terms for the Kanuri Core-Curricula of Basic Education-Kanuri-English terms for six years of primary school, and English-Kanuri terms for the first three years of junior secondary school (J. S. S). The objective is to make available reference material for primary and junior secondary schools. The terms both for Kanuri and English are extracted from the Kanuri Core-Curriculum of the Basic Education. The usual practice is to review curriculum after every five years but the basic education curricula have to be reviewed after three years. The Kanuri curriculum for primary schools was prepared in 1993 and that of junior secondary school in 2008. The two missed one and six reviews respectively. That notwithstanding, these terms came at the right time because they will enhance subsequent reviews apart from serving as dictionary for pupils in the primary schools and students in the junior secondary schools. The National Policy on Education (1977) currently is operating in Nigeria places great emphasis on the role of mother tongue in the lower classes of the primary school.
