Scholarly Research Paper from the year 2009 in the subject Psychology - Cognition, grade: 1,0, Free University of Berlin, course: Brain and Cognitive Development across the Lifespan, language: English, abstract: This essay is a review on Li, Lindenberger and Sikström's paper: Aging Cognition - from neuromodulation to representation (2001). In their paper the authors criticize the resource reduction theory for aging and come up with an own cross-level theory to explain this phenomenon. According to the authors the neurotransmitter dopamine seems to be a significant correlate for aging. However, their approach leaves out the fact that aging is not a plain bottom-up process. This is the reason why inter-individual differences of cognitive aging on the behavioral side (despite of similar neurobiological constraints) cannot be clarified within their approach.
