The Potentiality of the Wild Silk Spinners in Sudan

This book is claimed to be the first comprehensive study concerning the wild silk spinner, by identify the local silk moth, aimed to support sericulture enhancing and improving silkworm industry in the Sudan. The study is to test the hypothesis that the land race silk worm in the Sudan can be able to produce good cocoons with commercial characters when feed on local trees (Ziziphus spp.). Data on silkworms and their biology in the Sudan is scanty. For this reason this study aimed to investigate the influences of rearing period at the rainy season on the biology of Epiphora bauhiniae and characteristics of the cocoon weight, shell weight, shell ratio and the total life cycle including periods of instars, larval mortality, pupal period, pupation, adult longevity, reproductive behaviour, pre oviposition period, oviposition period, post oviposition period, oviposition rate, and adult fecundity. This study of the wild silk spinners in the Sudan claimed to be the first comprehensive study covered the bio-cycle of the insect spinners, as a commercial wild insect in the domain of natural silk production.
