Transvaginal Uterine Artery Ligation for Fibroids: Evaluation of Transvaginal Uterine Artery Ligation As a Minimally Invasive Conservative Treatment for Uterine Myomas

Conservative treatment options for symptomatic uterine fibroids are still under study. There are many medical, radiological and surgical treatments available today for the conservative treatment of fibroids but the final word remains unsaid. With this premise, we studied this extremely simple technique of devascularisation of uterine myoma as a possible step towards avoidance or postponement of removal of uterus. Our experience shows that this surgical approach is safe, feasible and has a short learning curve for the Gynecologist with promising results. We would especially like to recommend this treatment for women over 40 yrs, expecting to achieve menopause in the next 7-10 years, as a method to avoid hysterectomy.
