The purpose of this book is to summarize and analyze the competing positions about the consequences of continued deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon as these positions are presented in scholarly books on the subject published between 2000 and 2010. The analysis of the competing positions on the consequences of deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon focuses on and is guided by the search for answers to two critical questions: Which groups of people in the world benefit from the ways in which the consequences of deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon are presented in the books reviewed, and which groups of people are neglected or harmed by the ways in which this issue has been presented? Which assumptions about the consequences of deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon have been accepted as truth and have not been questioned by the authors of the books? This book is a critical study of ideological bias and how ideological bias affects the contemporary debate about the consequences of deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon.
