Keeping physically fit is now becoming the highest priority in society. People have now switched on to sedentary lifestyle. The benefits of regular exercises on physiological, physical and psychological health and on people with stress, anxiety and depression have been clearly documented. Truly speaking, it is easy to spot a regular exerciser by his improved sense of general well being and enhanced self image. People, the world over, have realized the importance of physically fit body for a vigorous and purposeful life. Unless we have the sustaining physical fitness, the joy of living and the satisfaction of a complete life is lost. There is enough research evidence to show that the physically fit individual is capable of understanding fatigue for longer periods; the physically fit person is better equipped to tolerate physical stress; the physically fit individual has more efficient circulatory and respiratory systems and has more efficient and stronger heart; and the fit individual exhibits good mental alertness and absence of nervous tension. Therefore, physical education programmes which can suit most of our schools and colleges with nominal facilities are very much in need.
