Educators' Preparation to Teach About Hiv and Aids: Exploring Preparation of Teachers to Teach About Hiv and Aids in Kenya
Moses Orwe-onyango
This book is about professional development that educators receive after their initial training. It explores the preparation of tutors to teach about HIV and AIDS to pre-service teacher trainees at a primary teacher training college in Kenya. It attempts to answer two main questions. How are teacher trainers prepared to teach about emerging issues, such as HIV and AIDS? Are the teacher trainees adequately prepared to teach about emerging issues, such as the sensitive issues that shroud HIV and AIDS? The question of adequate preparation is of wide and enduring concern, whatever the subject priorities of professional development programme. Although the book refers particularly to the preparation of educators to teach about HIV and AIDS, it has a much wider relevance and will be of interest to facilitators of in-service programmes and policy makers. The book is written for educators, but social science researchers will find the methodology chapter relevant for designing qualitative studies.
