The introduction of colonial policies in northern Katsina was ostensibly to boost agricultural development, but in real sense forced peasant farmers to massive production of export crops (ground nut) in place of food crops, this shift created impoverishment and other sufferings.as an alternative the many peasant farmers took to crime, the most outstanding was stealing life stock and farm produce in the night all in their bid to cope with the economic realities.
