Saving: Allelopathic Effects of Parthenium Hysterophorus L. on the Germination and Seedling Growth of Sesame and Chickpea
Lisanework Nigatu
Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) and chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) are one of the most popular and export crops grown in different parts of Ethiopia. However, the spread of Parthenium hysterophorus has posed a great threat to the production of these crops. However, little is known about the allelopathic potential of P. hysterophorus on sesame and chickpea seed germination and seedling growth. In laboratory bioassay, the seeds of the crops were subjected to different aqueous extract concentrations of plant parts. Germination response of these crops to different parts of P. hysterophorus aqueous extracts therefore, will be an aid in the development of control and management strategies.
