Sustainable Aboriginal Tourism Enterprise Development in Australia: an Exploration of Capacity Building

Sustainable Aboriginal tourism enterprise development in Australia is promoted by government agencies as a positive means for Aboriginal people to ?remove the welfare shackles' and enjoy economic independence. However, there are considerable challenges facing Aboriginal tourism ventures and their development is rarely straightforward. This book reviews the rationale for encouraging Aboriginal tourism development and investigates capacity building as a means of overcoming some of the identified challenges and maximising positive outcomes at a regional level. There is no one right way, and no quick or easy solution that will ensure sustainable Aboriginal tourism enterprise development. However, it does appear that knowledge and information are key ingredients to this process. As such this book makes a small contribution to this ongoing process of capacity building and knowledge sharing within NR NSW, Australia.
