So entsteht ein Panorama der fruhchristlichen Kunst, wobei die regionalen Besonderheiten charakterisiert werden. Damit wird die Bedeutung der fruhchristlichen Zentren zwischen Rom und Konstantinopel nicht relativiert, aber der Blick fur die Provinzen und die angrenzenden Landschaften wird gescharft.
