Due to the rise in prevalence of HIV in general population recently, treatment of HIV became the only option for the patients. So the present study got its significance to know the effect of antiretroviral therapy (ART). Though many studies have been reported on effect of ART from different parts of the world, limited studies were reported from India. Hence, the present work was carried on general population attending MGM (Mahatma Gandhi Memorial) Hospital of Warangal district, Telangana State (former Andhra Pradesh), India. The basic regimens of ART followed in the study for adults and adolescents were SLN, ZLN, SLE and ZLE combinations. The drug intake change the levels of CD4 count which reveals the effect of ART in HIV patients under the study. With > 25 antiretroviral drugs from at least 6 therapeutic classes now available, it is likely that the vast majority of patients who are able to access and adhere to combination therapy will achieve durable viral suppression. The vast majority of patients who have virological response to therapy exhibit sustained increase in their peripheral CD4+ cell count, with most individuals achieving a normal CD4+ cell count. So HIV is treatable.
