Listening has noticeable significance in EFL teaching. Research in EFL teaching has given considerable boost to listening. This is done by stressing the importance of comprehensible input. Since listening prepares input for learner, it is essential in teaching language. Without comprehending input at the right level, any learning simply cannot begin. Thus, listening is foundational to speaking (Nunan, 1997). Different kinds of listening can be discerned, which are classified on the basis of a number of variables, involving purpose for listening, and type of text being listened to. These variables are mixed in different shapes, and each of them needs a special strategy (Vanpatten & Williams, 2007). Listening is a dynamic interaction of guessing approximation, expectation and idealization that naturally uses all the redundancies found in a representative discourse situation (Wang, 2010). This chapter includes the issue to be investigated, the purpose and the scope of the study, research questions, research hypothesis, the significance of the study, and the definition of the key terms.
