This study, prepared in partnership between the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), explores the issue of elder abuse in the Arab region. The aim of the study is to understand the manifestations, causes and impacts of abuse across various family, institutional and community settings. The institutional, policy and social gaps that contribute to the persistence of abuse are highlighted.
The study concludes with practical policy recommendations aimed at establishing a comprehensive national response that safeguards the dignity and rights of older persons.
