In this installment, Leonard "General" Grant, a sophomore at Alton Academy, tries to gain a guard position on the football eleven. The usual blend of study, football, hijinks, not necessarily in that order, abound. Many of the lads we've come to know in prior volumes of this series are back for another year at Alton, including Russell Emerson, whom we first met in the preceding volume, Right End Emerson.
