The Thai Sex Trade Industry
D Farang
The Thai Sex Trade Industry: is Alive and Well! - is a review of the gigantic, albeit technically illegal (for locals and foreigners alike) sex-trade industry, in the Kingdom of Thailand. This non-fiction book contains true-life adventures of foreign sex-tourists, the Thai Sex-Trade workers that service millions of (generally distasteful) customers and their ever-present counterparts - Thai Ladyboys (also known as "Kathoey"). The author spent decades in the Kingdom, being very attracted to Thai women (as opposed to Thai men) and at the same time, managed a few (mis) adventures with Thai ladyboys (an ultra-strange mixture of both sexes). As such, the non-fiction stories in the manuscript reflect the author's true adventures, as opposed to some bovine fantasy (while perhaps sitting in front of a well-used computer screen). The troubled life of an 18-year-old (abused) Thai teenager is revealed, as Jem (her real name) is introduced to the Thai Sex-Trade Industry, at the tender age of 18. And when Thai Sex-Trade workers (and their foreign "Johns") go bad - they go really bad indeed - sometimes murderously bad. The chronic, largely unaddressed paradigm of sexual violence in the Kingdom is examined, perpetrated on locals, tourists and expats alike. While traveling all over Thailand, I've found that once an inherently at-risk farang (foreigner) gets a taste of the Thai bar scene and its concomitant sex-trade workers, it's all too easy to fall into the sordid trap. I almost did. Many sex-tourists go to Thailand for a few weeks or a month, and all they really see is the seamy underbelly of Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai or Phuket. They hang out on Walking Street or Bangla Road and get their fill, and then some. And like so many Thai tourists before and to follow, it's far too easy to fall victim to a daily plethora of carnal pleasures, for Thailand specializes in precisely that. At the same time, one can lose sight of the real Thailand. All the scenic tours and worthy tourist attractions fall to the wayside, as a nightly "fuck-fest" replaces the holiday in large part - amid lurid neon signs. In the end, these nightly (or daily) encounters almost all blur together into nothingness - with a few notable exceptions. So, instead of seeing Thailand's vast beauty in the day-time, the Thai sex-tourist often stays up all night and sleeps all day, rendering them tired most of the time. Moreover, a lot of them would not remember, or even be able to pronounce the names of the 40 some-odd young women (or men, or ladyboys - the quasi third sex) that they slept with - for a short time (15-30 minutes), or a long-time (about half the night). These odd and colorful foreigners wash up on Thai shores, replete with significant character defects - by degree. They end up fornicating their hard-earned Thai holiday away, eating McDonald's food, drinking copious amounts of Singha or Chang beer, only going home to tell tall-stories to their bar-buddies - who often make fun of them as total losers - rightly or wrongly.
