The tale recounts the tale of Mrs. Maitland, a weathered old widow who claims and works an iron factory. Her commitment to a Puritanical hard working attitude estranges her child Blair, who however he stands to acquire the business, is stubborn and in affection with Elizabeth Ferguson, a match Mrs. Maitland opposes. It was first distributed in quite a while in Harper's Monthly from November 1910 through October 1911.
