The Merry Wives of Windsor or Sir John Falstaff and the Merry Wives of Windsor is a parody by William Shakespeare initially distributed in 1602, however accepted to have been written in or before 1597. The Windsor of the play's title is a reference to the town of Windsor, likewise the area of Windsor Castle, in Berkshire, England. Despite the fact that ostensibly set in the reign of Henry IV or from the get-go in the rule of Henry V, the play makes no misrepresentation to exist outside contemporary Elizabethan time English working class life.
