Solomon Northup is an unfastened black man dwelling in upstate New York together with his circle of relatives in the 1840s. He is a wood worker and a skilled violin player. One day, two men technique him and ask if he will accompany them and play his fiddle as they journey to Washington DC to the circus they work for. Solomon is of the same opinion. Unfortunately, he is drugged and wakes up in what he discovers is a slave pen inside view of the Capitol. Burch, a merciless slave trader, beats Solomon and tells him never to say that he is from the North and that he was kidnapped. Solomon is cowed into submission however is inconsolable approximately his new scenario. He and numerous other slaves are taken down South to Louisiana to be offered. Solomon witnessed firsthand the horror of a slave mother being separated from her kids.
