After being rejected by a girl who stole his heart, a high school senior disappears, or rather escapes, from home. Home to Bob was a life of dealing with alcoholic parents and carrying shame from an infamous family reputation. He is grateful to his sister, Beth, for her never ending support and encouragement. He takes with him a new name and goals for a better future. Along the way, he makes friends who enrich his life. Tragedy strikes during Bob's journey, causing despair and sadness. It's during World War II that Bob defines himself as a soldier and prepares himself for a return home with skills and determination to make things right.
