A Passage to India

E. M. Forster's classic novel, considered to be among the greatest books of the Twentieth Century. Set amidst the Indian Independence Movement, through which British rule of India ended, the novel explores racial tensions among the native Indians and British residents through a trial for the alleged assault of a British woman, Adela Quested, by the Indian Dr. Aziz. The title of the novel is a reference to Walt Whitman's poem, "Passage to India", which appeared in Leaves of Grass.
