In the words of Edgar Allan Poe, "I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity." We all have the need to escape from horrible realities, especially at the time of writing this in 2020. BEYOND THE OPENED DOORS is a collection of 19 stories of varied length. As you open each door to enter what lies beyond, you will be taken into surreal realms of the supernatural or the macabre existence of characters that are twisted, deranged or innocent victims of their own misfortune. This is a collection of stories ranging from a couple of thousand words to over twenty-thousand words; about 125 000 words in total. They were written over a seven year period, partly as an exercise in developing different writing styles, but mainly because I wanted to tell the story. You will find them varied but they mainly fall into the genres of horror or supernatural. I struggled for a while to name this collection, until I realised most of these stories contain the element of opening a door. Throughout our lives we physically and metaphorically open doors to lead us on new pathways in our lives. In these stories, many of the characters regret the door they have opened due to the dreadful consequences that arise through their chosen route. From the sinister happenings that guide the Collector to his ultimate doom, to the incredibly sad discovery about the true nature of My Lady, these tales will take you on bizarre and surreal journeys that will remain in your thoughts until your demise. Tragically, 'When the 13th Bell Tolls, ' is based on real events that occurred in 13th century France, a reminder that some of the most extreme horror is far too close to reality. I did add a supernatural twist to this piece of fiction based on historical events that took place. If you read this collection of stories, please, please leave a review. It means so much to us writers who invest thousands of hours in our art.
