Daddy-Long-Legs (Annotated)
Jean Webster
Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the time-Daddy-Long-Legs by Jean Webster. The purpose of realizing this historical context is to approach the understanding of a historical epoch from the elements provided by the text. Hence the importance of placing the document in context. It is necessary to unravel what its author or authors have said, how it has been said, when, why and where, always relating it to its historical moment. It is a 1912 epistolary novel by the American writer Jean Webster. She follows the protagonist, Jerusha "Judy" Abbott, when she leaves an orphanage and is sent to college by a benefactor whom she has never seen. Jerusha Abbott was raised at the John Grier Home, a former orphanage. Children were completely dependent on charity and had to wear other people's discarded clothes. Jerusalem's unusual first name was selected by the tombstone matron (she hates it and uses "Judy" instead), while her last name was selected from the phone book. At 17, she finished her education and is on the loose, still working in the dormitories of the institution where she was raised.
