The Playboy of the Western World is a three-act play written by John Millington Synge and first performed at the Abbey Theatre. The play tells the story of Christy Mahon, a young man running away from his farm, claiming he killed his father. John Millington Synge (1871-1909) was an Irish prose writer, playwright and poet who also collected folklore. He became a key figure in the Irish Literary Revival and a co-founder of the Abbey Theatre.
