Gastroparesis happens when nerves to the stomach are broken or prevent operating. The vagus nerve controls the motion of food through the digestive tract. If the vagus nerve is damaged, the muscles of the belly and intestines do now not working normally and the motion of food is slowed or stopped. Diabetes can damage the vagus nerve if blood glucose levels stay excessive over an extended time frame. High blood glucose reasons chemical changes in nerves and damages the blood vessels that deliver oxygen and vitamins to the nerves.
