The Grid explores power on many levels: physical, electrical, political, economic, and spiritual. Power expresses uniquely, whether it is turning the shaft of a turbine, motivating the decisions of a business enterprise, or inspiring someone to an act of courage. The setting for The Grid is the electrical power business. Hank Hudson is an overworked mechanical engineer from a Midwest utility. Natasha Shakhova is a beautiful Russian nuclear power plant director. Dieter Schmidt is the ruthless CEO of Energia, an international energy company. Energia has a deep secret. It has developed an unconventional way of producing electrical energy, one that doesn't use fuel, nor creates environmentally destructive pollution. What's so sinister is that Energia is suppressing their own discovery. Hank and Natasha meet at a European energy conference and unsuspectingly become caught up in a whirlwind of intrigue and industrial espionage that lifts them out of their everyday existence and into an urgent mission to bring this new technology into safe hands. Will they prevail, or will Energia's security henchmen prevent them from succeeding? The implications for the world are staggering.
