An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals (Annotated)

Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the time-The purpose of realizing this historical context is to approach the understanding of a historical epoch from the elements provided by the text. Hence the importance of placing the document in context. It is necessary to unravel what its author or authors have said, how it has been said, when, why and where, always relating it to its historical moment. Although there is a consensus among scholars regarding the establishment of an affiliation between Hume and experimental philosophy, important divergences prevail when determining the object of study of the "science of human nature," as well as establishing the reasons that legitimize the application of the experimental method to moral issues and the way in which it is carried out. We intend to clarify these three questions in order to specify in what sense Hume's experimentalism must be understood. Regarding the first, we maintain that the science of human nature not only includes the study of the mind, but also includes that of interaction within the framework of society throughout history. Regarding the second, we consider that there is a common ontological basis for moral and natural phenomena, while both are included under the questions of fact, which enables the application of the same method of investigation to both.
