Northanger Abbey

The Allen's, a childless couple, invite Catherine Morland, daughter of friends, to travel with them to Bath, England. Catherine and Mrs. Allen spend their time shopping and walking around to be seen because they don't know anyone there. During one of these "walks to be seen", Catherine is introduced to a young clergyman named Henry Tilney, with whom after dancing she has an interesting conversation that is enough to make Catherine intrigued and interested in Henry. The next day she looks for him in various places but he seems to disappear from his sight. Catherine continues to think of him but she meets Mrs. Thorpe, an old friend of Mrs. Allen and Catherine forms an intimate friendship with her eldest daughter, Isabella
