At the Earth's Core

The creator relates how, going in the Sahara desert, he has experienced a noteworthy vehicle and its pilot, David Innes, a man with a surprising story to tell. David Innes is a mining beneficiary who funds the test "iron mole," an exhuming vehicle planned by his old creator companion Abner Perry. In a trial, they find the vehicle can't be turned, and it tunnels 500 miles into the Earth's covering, arising into the obscure inside universe of Pellucidar. In Burroughs' idea, the Earth is an empty shell with Pellucidar as the interior surface of that shell.
