Bon Iver - 22, A Million
Bon Iver unveiled their new album via the release of the two new songs, 22 (Over SooN) and 10 dEAThbREasT . The music on the two singles is almost as cryptic as the song titles and lyrical universe, so the stage is set for yet another radically experimental album, which marks a further step away from the toned-down singer-songwriter style of the debut.
"22" is a recurring element that has created a meaningful pattern in frontman Justin Vernon's life. "22" therefore stands for Justin Vernon, while "A Million" is the rest of the world; the millions of people one will never get to know. The contrast between the self and the surrounding world is the album's fundamental duality, and this contrast simultaneously serves as a culmination of 20 years of yearning for self-understanding in Justin Vernon.
The ten songs on 22, A Million are a collection of special moments and intense memories; of love's torments and redemptions. Where its predecessor, Bon Iver, Bon iver , appeared as a manifestation of a physical place, the new album is rather a detachment from such a physical place.
