Marty Feldman
In 1967 Marty Feldman, a flourishing comedy writer, ventured on screen in the trail-blazing At Last! The 1948 Show. Just a year later, he was starring in his own series Marty (re-titled It's Marty for the second series). Here his physical comedy and zany imagination came to the fore, particularly in filmed sketches that utilised fast and slow-motion camera tricks - best remembered in 'The Lightening Coach Tour', a hilarious, condensed, daylong seaside trip. Feldman's later ITV series The Marty Feldman Comedy Machine was disappointingly received, but in Hollywood he was a hit - starring in Mel Brooks' films Young Frankenstein and Silent Movie as well as The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother. He died in December 1982. This selection of some great sketches from his BBC series showcase a unique comic style that recalls the era of silent slapstick comedy, but encapsulates the surreal spirit of 1960s new comedy.
