He played on the psychedelic masterpiece 'Sunshine Superman' by Donovan and sang backup to the Beatles on "Lovely Rita" among many other contributions to works by other musicians over the years. Shawn Phillips is considered by many as one of the truest, most beautiful singer-songwriters there ever was. There was nothing like it then in the late sixties, and there is certainly nothing that compares to it now. "L'Ballade" is considered one of the most beautiful love songs ever recorded. Steve Winwood on piano and Shawn on guitar make some magic happen on "Withered Roses" and he made a strong political statement, for the time, with his song ,"For RFK, JFK and MLK". This is his third full album with backing up from all the members of Traffic.
