Ben Colder was the alter-ego of singing actor Sheb Wooley, who'd enjoyed a worldwide hit with the million-selling 'Purple People Eater' back in 1958.

In 1962 he successfully wrote and recorded an 'answer disc' to Rex Allen's US hit 'Don't Go Near The Indians', titled 'Don't Go Near The Eskimos', which was issued as 'Ben Colder', a made-up name.

Its success led to him cutting an LP of similarly-styled material, "Spoofing The Big Ones!", which lampooned eleven further recent US hits by artists like Johnny Cash, Faron Young, Marty Robbins and Jerry Wallace.

This compilation reissues that album plus, as bonus tracks, the original versions of the twelve US hits which were spoofed.

Further bonus tracks feature a half-dozen rare Sheb Wooley novelty releases from the late 50s/early 60s.

The original LP, "Spoofing The Big Ones!" has never previously appeared on CD, which makes this compilation a unique and crucial collectors' release.
