I fell in love with this culture of Hip Hop around the age of 10 and it has only grown stronger since. I remember when my pops brought home the movie Beat Street and after I saw that movie I was hooked! I remember staying up late on Friday nights switching back and forth between Lady B's Street Beat when she was on Power 99 & The Rap Digest with Mimi on WDAS. At the same time I would have out my rhyme book writing lyrics because I was so inspired by what I heard on the radio. Little did I know then that I was being exposed to a music that would later consume a big part of my life. I grew up listening to Rakim, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G. Rap, Slick Rick, Public Enemy, LL. Cool J......all the Golden Era cats. In the early 90's I was in a group called II Scandalous with my friend J-Smoove. We had management at the time and did a lot of underground showcases & talent shows around Philly. We had a lil' underground banga' called 'Da Boom, Da Bip' which alot of people seemed to like. We had that Leaders of the New School eastcoast stompin' style with a Hi-top fade Kid'N'Play look! I've been rhyming since around '87 and I started making beats around '90. I think I can describe my style as metaphoric/punchline rhymes sprinkled with an amusing delivery. Since I'm from that era of battle rap mc's, I have a cocky kind of way of delivering rhymes to where I think it sounds fat, but funny at the same time. I consider my music to be hardcore in the sense that I like my drums hard, and my lyrics may be a little explicit sometimes. But you won't hear me killing anybody or slangin' any dope because even though I like that kind of rap, that's just not the vibe I'm on. I like my beats to be composed of chopped up samples & hard drums. I don't particularly care for producers who make those keyboard sounding beats with factory drums. I like it to sound gritty and dirty with static all in the samples & maybe slightly off loop. I'm out to make money off my talent like the next man, but instead of getting caught up with the majors, I prefer the independent route. It's the difference between getting less than a $1 per record as opposed to getting $7-$8 per record, forget the fame. I would like to have the consistency of RedMan, Busta Rhymes, or Gang Starr because to me, those are some of the most consistent artists out there. I just want to stay hungry like that, but be able to eat at the same time, Yahmean??? .
